The Big Picture is an educational program offering participants the opportunity to study photography and use it as an instrument of personal expressions. The program is taking place at the Amal 1 Technological High School in Jaffa, and numbers 12 participants, most of them Arab students.
The program allows students to express themselves as creators who are able to capture distinctive moments of reality on film, creating a photographic diary depicting their unique view of the world, often combining personal texts.
For these students, the majority of whom have never before held a camera, photography is a new and experimental medium, which they can use as a channel of communication both among themselves and with their surroundings. The photographs leave their mark and mirrors Arab youths' visibility within Israeli society, boosting their self-perception and empowering them in the process.
